Learning at Waikowhai Beach

Yay it didn't rain. Wakadee doo I didn't know we were going to Waikowhai  beach.
We had some parents waiting for us in vans and cars to drive us to Waikowhai park.
Room one took the long way down to the beach.
The sea was massive and there was lots of sand at the beach.

We went there to see what happens to the rubbish that gets washed out to sea.
We found lots of rubbish that the tide brought in.We picked up glass. We got two plastic bags, one had rubbish and the other one had lots of shells a stick and rocks.
The tide brings in fish skeletons, sea weed and some rubbish came in to.
We went up about eighty stairs to get back to the park. The steps were so high some of us had to take big steps. We were all so tired after that and our legs were very sore.

When we got back to class we checked out what we had in the bags. There was  biodegradable and non biodegradable things there. We found out that biodegradable things were living things and non biodegradable things are man made things. Biodegradable stuff is good  for the environment but non biodegradable stuff is not good for the environment, because they can kill animals.

We learnt to never put rubbish on the ground because it would go in the sea.

V2 visits Room 1

Do you know who V2 is? She is a cockatiel.

She spreads out her wings and flies. When she flies wind comes. When she spreads out her wings it looks like a fantail's wing. When she is frightened her feathers on the top of her head (the crest) go up, that means she is afraid. V2 is a very cute bird.

She has orange cheeks. She has sharp, black nails on her claws. V2 has a grey body and a green face and she uses her beak to comb her feathers when all of it goes up.

V2 needs lots of different types of seeds to grow feathers. These seeds are different kind of sizes and colours. She needs water to drink, toys to play with and green leaves to eat.           By Krish

Yahoo we won the Holiday reading log competition. Gosh we read lots of books.
We had a fantastic lunch today in the school library, with the blue fairy.
We had pizza and delicious  fairy cup cakes with blue icing and sprinkles on the top.
We went on the i-pads and computers and we played "Fireboy and Watergirl". Some of us fed the fish and we saw them swimming to get the food.
Thank you Blue Fairy for the wonderful party, we had so much fun.

The Big Slurp Day

Yesterday lots of children drank  milk at 10:30. Here is a photo of us enjoying our milk.

Drinking milk everyday will give us strong healthy bones. We love drinking milk everyday. The milk is cold and delicious. We hope we don't run out of milk.

We coloured in our masks, cut them out and Mrs. Jamison put the elastic on for us.
Here is a photo of us with our masks.

Thank you Fonterra for organising the milk for us.

Making Rice balls

Wow we did something amazing, like super, super amazing. We made rice balls on Wednesday the 20 August.

First we chose three different coloured balloons. Then we cut the long end off all three balloons. We also cut little holes in the third balloon.

After that Miss Surplis helped us put rice in one of our balloons.

Once our first balloon was full of rice, we put our second balloon on top of it, so that our rice won't fall out.

Last of all we put the balloon with the little holes in it, on top of the other two balloons.

Someone's rice ball looked like a dinosaur egg, another one looked like the earth and most looked like easter eggs.

Our day making rice balls was fantastic.

Room 1's student teacher Miss Surplis.

Miss Surplis has gone back to university to learn to be a good teacher and she will have her own class next year. We will miss her very much because she has done a good job of teaching us. Don't worry she'll come back to visit us. While she was teaching us she showed us how to do lots of incredible activities that were wonderful for us. Watch this space for all the exciting things she taught us.

Here is Room 1's description of Miss Surplis:

Wow!! What an amazing teacher. We will always love Miss Surplis. She is a beautiful and colourful teacher. She is taller than Milika and Mrs. Jamison. Her hair is gorgeous. It is  blond and curly.  She has delicate blueish, greenish eyes. The outside of her eyes are white and in the middle of her eyes there is a black little hole. She has a beautiful smile. Sometimes she wears a pink sweater and dark, black  tights. She has black and white shoes.  We really enjoyed Miss Surplus teaching us and all the fun things she did with us.
