Book Week

Book Week

Last week we had book week. We loved book week.
Miss Ahn read a giant book to us. It took five days to read.  Some of the stories in the book were: The frog Prince, Goldilocks and the three Bears, The three little pigs, The twelve dancing princesses and Little Red Riding Hood.
In the three little pigs, only the brick house survived because the wolf could not blow that house down. The brick house was so so so strong. Little Red Riding Hood was naughty because she didn't listen to her mum. Goldilocks ate Baby Bear's porridge and broke Baby Bear's chair.

On Friday we had a book parade and Special Assembly. All of us had a costume to wear for the Assembly.

At Assembly we walked around so everyone could see our costumes.

Andrea taught us a cool song about cool books. Here it is:

Books R cool, books R fun

There’s a book for everyone
Books R cool, come and see

I’ll read to you, you read to me

We can't wait for next year's book week.

Here is some of our learning in our own voice

Water experiments with Sally

Water experiments with Sally

Sally told us when we heat water it turns into gas. We saw the gas coming out of the kettle when the water boiled. We know that water can be gas, liquid or solid.

The container with the water makes our finger look fat, the container without water makes our finger look normal.

When we put the arrow pointing to the right the water made it point to the left. Sally used a torch and mirror to show us how water bends the light.

We had a good time with Sally doing water experiments. We hope she comes back and teaches us more about science.

The Life Education Caravan

Guess where we went today.

Room One went to the Life Education Caravan today. We learnt that we get energy from the food that we eat.

We learnt that:         protein makes our muscles strong
                                 dairy makes our bones strong
                                 grains give us energy

We looked at the bones, the heart and the brain inside the body.
Bones give us shape, muscles help us pick up stuff and help us move. If we don't eat the right food our muscles and bones won't work properly.  If we eat too much sugar our teeth will get stinky and rotten, we will get so fat and our heart will have to work very hard.

Good food like fruit and vegetables, bread and proteins will make us health and strong. We should drink more than 5 glasses of water a day.

Welcome to Room 1 2015

Akesa likes school. Mariam likes learning. Harvest likes playing. Jerimyah likes playing with his friends. Astera likes writing and reading. Isaiah likes counting. Von'Zy likes school, because he likes to learn. Ita likes school because it is really fun.

In writing some of us are learning to use finger spaces between our words. Some of us are learning to write one idea in a sentence. We are all learning to read our writing when we have finished, because it must make sense.

We all like reading. We are learning to look at the pictures to help us read. We are also learning to make our reading sound smooth.

In Maths we are learning to count. Maths is lots of fun.

We hope you like reading about our learning.
