James takes a holiday!

Our best buddy James finally got his wish and went to the sky tower in the holidays!
He hopped on a bus and went to the sky tower.  He was feeling a little bit scared but really excited because he had always wanted to go. He even stepped on the glass floor and saw the city below. James made a friend called Steve who bungee jumped from the top! James was a bit scared to do that. Maybe he will when he gets a bit older!

Go the All Blacks!

Today we used crayons and dye to draw these awesome all blacks! We described the all blacks using words like brave, tough, strong and fit! We think these pictures look just like the real team! 

Get Wise

Room 1 was learning about saving and spending money, this morning.

Super Hero- Captain Cashtastic from the ASB talked to us about money. He was funny.

First we learnt about the value of money. The coins have three colours- gold, silver and bronze, just like medals. The gold coins have the most value and they are the $2 and $1 coins, next are the silver coins which  are the 50 cents and the 20 cents, the least value coin is the 10 cents which is the bronze colour. We also have notes these are $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5.

Then we learnt about needs and wants.  Needs are what we need like water, food, shelter and clothes. Our wants are  lollies, chips, ice-cream  and chocolate, ipads, computers and phones.

We earn our money, by doing jobs.

We can spend money on our needs, save money for our wants and save some money for sharing (buying presents). 

When Captain Cashtasic left, he gave us bright yellow wrist bands that say ASB- get Wise. It also says speed for your needs and wait for your wants.

This was a good idea because it will help us save our money.

Our PB4L Movie!

Monday Morning in Room 1

Today I was really happy because Room 1 were back in class after their weekend. It was so nice to see them and they all said good morning to me.  What nice manners they have!

Today I learnt about the May Road School code. This was really interesting.

I learnt that at MRS we keep our hands and feet to ourselves, we look after our place and things and we play safely and sensibly. Everybody at MRS talks in a friendly way. Miss Haydon even helped us make a movie about PB4L on the ipads. My friends in Room 1 were fantastic actors as they showed how to behave at May Road School. I can’t wait to see the movie when it is finished.

Meet our new buddy James!

Hello my name is James! 

I am from London in England and I am seven years old. I really love playing games with my friends especially football and sometimes rugby. My favourite thing to eat is chocolate cake (even though I know it is not so healthy!) Now I am in New Zealand, I would really like to visit the Sky Tower. At the moment I live in Room 1 at May Road School. I have my own diary to write in but blogging seems like a fun way to share what I am doing. Room 1 is fantastic because I have made so many new buddies and they are all looking after me so well! I was nervous when I left London and my friends there, but I have made lot's of new friends already. Today I even went outside to play duck duck goose! Keep an eye out on Room 1's blog to check out what other adventures I am having. James. 

                     Room 14 visits Room 1

We had a good day today because Room 14 came to our class and taught us maths games.

We used cards to match numbers and we had to say what number comes before and after the number on the card. Some of us played snap and fishy fishy.

Some of us played dominoes and we had to add numbers on the dice with our friends

Thank you Room 14 for organising the maths games and coming to play them with us. We appreciate the time you spent with us. We would love you to come  back and teach us some more exciting games.
