The Beehive on the tree at our school

This morning we discovered a beehive on one of our trees at school. We could not see any honey because the bees were surrounding the hive. We couldn't see the queen either because she was in the centre of the bee hive.
Now this week we are going to learn about bees.

This is what we already know:
  • Bees have compound eyes- Sauni
  • They have 3 body parts- Akesa
  • They have 6 legs, 3 on each side- Faith
  • The wings are see through (transparent)- Faith
  • It is an insect- Sauni
  • They can sting- Roskill
  • They have yellow and black stripes- Akesa

Watch our blog to see what we have learnt about bees.

Cross Country

Our big exciting fantastic Cross Country

Today our cross Country race was so long that I had a stitch that was painful, but I still jogged all the whole way around the school. Some people were so slow that they walked before they jogged. People ran back to the school to go to the finish line, then they went to Ms Noakes before they went to sit down and watch the other children win. Some children walked around the rabbit hutch to cool down. Then they sat down in the nice cool shade with heaps of children making noises and cheering for the junior children. While the children were running Kevin played songs that were awesome and very loud like a baby shouting. When it came to the Rata team the first boy was Kassidy and the first girl was Edyn.     By Daniel

Today is a happy day for all of us because we have our amazing cross country.  First the junior kids ran around the playground. Next the big kids ran around the school and one of the senior girls named Moonlight came first.  The year threes went after that and Edyn came first from the girls and Kassidy came  first from the boys. Then we all walked back to class and we all had our morning tea.

Today May Road School had Cross Country. There was a lady that came in and out up a special blowup finish line, also she put two Fun Run flags. Out of the Year 2, Liraya was accelerating though the course without stopping. After that, it was the boys turn with Valintino being the winner. The boys tried their best and Valintino was supersonic. Illyana, she was rapid. I had lots of fun at the May Road School Cross Country.

PB4L

During the last two weeks we have been learning about Team Work.

Team work is like friendship and friendship is like the same as working together. They plan so that they can get there. When I was in Room 8 when I first started this girl came and said "Hi, come and play blocks with me" because she was the only one that was playing with the blocks. Then I went to play with her then she asked me "What is your name?" I told her my name is Amethyst and I also asked her what her name is, her name is Akesa. She smiled and I smiled back. And that when out friendship started. We took turns building stuff, having so much fun. My mum was talking to the teacher and the teacher said I will have to come tomorrow, so my mum picked me up and carried me home. Then I cried because me and Akesa were using team work and I really wanted to stay but I had to go back home. The next day I went to my friend and gave her a big hug when she was not looking, she then turned around and hugged me back. Then we carried on building our tower, then at the end of the day, we went back home.

Gymnastics

This term we are learning how to do Gymnastics. Most of us find Gymnastics hard, we are learning to try our best and never give up.    Our Gymnastics coach has taught Room 11 that when you are doing a backwards roll you always have to remember that you have to put your  chin to touch your chest. So when you are  doing  a backwards roll you won't hurt your own neck.

Making our stories come to life

This week we have been writing our own stories. Today we have had a go at the lego movie app on the i-pads. It was fun drawing the pictures and taking photos while moving our characters really slowly across the back ground.

We must remember to keep the  i-pad still, take our fingers out of the way before we take the photo and move the character in little moves to that they move smoothly along the background.

Next time we will read our stories while taking photos so that our story and movie end at the same time.

Duffy Theatre

On Thursday we had a Duffy Theatre. First we sang songs. Then we started the show after all the fun songs. The show was so funny because when we were singing we're going to catch the sun we learnt fun actions for that song. Also it was  a little similar to heal the world.

The show was like real characters in it.  It was a little like magic because when there was a blue fairy doll it turned to a real life doll. There was a evil cloud because the blue fairy pushed it from Australia to New Zealand. She also got fire and dead roses. This guy wanted to travel all  around the world because the fairy said"we've got imaginations to do that, if we want to travel around the world. I felt so funny inside. All the characters were so funny but my favourite character was the evil cloud because the evil white cloud had hands to spray water at us and some went in my eye. Also the evil cloud was so funny and it kept on hiding from the fairy and the guy.

Then we asked questions. Like what was there name and when were they were born and stuff. It was so much fun but very funny and like they were real characters from a movie.

The NED Show

The NED Show was really amazing.
NED stands for Never give up
                            Encourage others
                            Do your best

We are going to think about this when we are working, doing sports, learning and for our future.

Sirrena, from our class, was lucky because she won a green yoyo and a colourful, balloon crown.

The Anzac Day ceremony

On Monday morning all the classes went to an Anzac ceremony because the soldiers that died in the war had a funeral. First after all the classes  came in front of the shade, everyone sang the New Zealand National Anthem. Then we all sat down. After that everyone was listening carefully to what Ms. Tuipulotu was saying. Next we all stood up again and everyone was quiet and we were listening to the trumpet. Then children from Room 1 helped the children in Room 12 put down the  the white crosses next to beautiful, red poppies. The children in Room one put down poppies, that people wear on their t-shirts, down on the grass. The white crosses had black writing with the name of the soldiers. Finally every class went back to their rooms. I felt exhausted because we had to stand for a very long time.
